Tips for Walking in the July Heat
Summer is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, but walking in the heat of July requires a few extra precautions to stay safe and comfortable. Whether you're strolling the neighborhood or hitting your favorite trail, here are some quick tips:
Walk Early or Late - Avoid the midday sun. Aim for morning or evening walks when temperatures are cooler and the sun is lower in the sky.
Dress for the Heat - Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing and a wide-brimmed hat. Don’t forget sunglasses and SPF 30+ sunscreen.
Stay Hydrated - Bring water and take small sips regularly—even if you don’t feel thirsty. Consider an electrolyte drink for longer walks.
Slow Your Pace - Heat can make walking more strenuous. Listen to your body and take breaks when needed.
Choose Shaded Routes - Seek out tree-lined paths, shaded parks, or walk indoors at the mall if it’s just too hot outside.
Watch for Warning Signs - If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or overly tired, stop immediately, find shade, and hydrate. These could be signs of heat exhaustion.
With a little planning, summer walking can still be safe and refreshing. Stay cool and keep moving! Let's Get Out There!
