Introducing Motivation Mindset Labs Virtual Walking Challenges
Recently, York Nordic and our parent company, Motivation Mindset Labs, ran a study based on a virtual Nordic walking challenge for those with Parkinson's. The study used an innovative virtual Nordic Walking program that combined interactive maps, personalized goal tracking, and daily motivational text messages to simulate iconic hiking routes. By blending technology, scenic exploration, and behavioral science, the program aimed to improve walking consistency, enhance mood, and strengthen motivation and autonomy among participants living with Parkinson’s. In short, we were pleased to see the positive results and were inspired to create ongoing virtual walking challenges for anyone looking to participate and benefit.
Last week we launched a new challenge:
4 SUMMITS in 4 WEEKS: York Nordic Virtual Walking Challenge & Motivation Study for Research
Train the Mind. Master the Moment.
It is an inspiring virtual adventure that helps you move with purpose, form lasting habits, and contribute to real-world research on walking, mood, and motivation.
Together, we explore 4 of the world’s most iconic walking routes — all from wherever a participant is:
- Mt. Washington (USA) – your first summit of focus and persistence
- Grand Canyon Rim to Rim (USA) – a test of steady progress and inner drive
- Mount Kilimanjaro (Tanzania) – a climb toward balance and resilience
- Cinque Terre (Italy) – a celebration of rhythm, beauty, and joy in movement
This virtual walk challenge and study is designed for all levels of walkers — from those setting a goal to reach the mailbox without stopping, to those working toward 5,000 or even 10,000 steps a day. Everyone customizes their goals to fit unique needs, abilities, and motivation.
Participants Receive:
- Motivation Maps – 4 maps mailed to help visualize your progress and track personal goals
- Daily motivational messages – text messages with pics/videos to keep you inspired and accountable
- Goal-setting guidance - to help you clarify your “why” — balance, activity, strength, or adventure
- Weekly reflection – shared anonymized reflections from the entire community
- Research summary report – mailed to you to summarize group change in mood and motivation
- Carved wooden medal – mailed to you to celebrate your journey and your contribution to research
Whether preparing for a trip, staying balanced for those with a neurological condition, rebuilding strength after joint replacement surgery, starting a weight loss journey, or simply seeking motivation to walk more — this challenge meets you where you are and motivates you to keep moving forward.
This specific challenge begins November 2nd and runs for four weeks. The deadline to sign up is October 31st, but don't worry, there will be more!
